Course Description

The conference is primarily aimed at judges and public prosecutors in criminal law who, in the course of their duties, have to deal with legal issues pertaining to armed conflict and international criminal law. At the same time, it is open to judges from civil and administrative courts who deal with suits where the state may be held liable or are confronted with issues from these legal areas in administrative proceedings. Alongside the relevant legal bases, questions as to how proceedings are carried out and how to deal with parties to proceedings in practice will also be discussed.

The following topics are currently planned for discussion:• Introduction to International Humanitarian Law (with particular focus on the Geneva Conventions on Armed Conflict)• Introduction to international criminal law• Issues pertaining to international mutual legal assistance• Procedural and practical aspects
